Kevin Jensen

Today the DSA announced to the media and the public it's endorsement of Sheriff's Captain Kevin Jensen for the position of County Sheriff in 2014.  The DSA is announcing this endorsement now, in the hopes of encouraging meaningful discussion about the Sheriff's Office, it's changing role, the future of services it provides to all the people in Santa Clara County, and what type of leadership it will take to bring it all together.  We believe Kevin Jensen is a leader who can move the Sheriff's Office into the next era.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY’S DEPUTY SHERIFFS’ ASSOCIATION AND CORRECTIONAL PEACE OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION VOTE OVERWHELMINGLY TO ENDORSE CAPT. KEVIN JENSEN FOR COUNTY SHERIFF IN JUNE, 2014 ELECTION

In a landslide, Santa Clara County’s Deputy Sheriffs’ Association (DSA) and the Santa Clara County Correctional Peace Officers’ Association (SCCCPOA) have voted to endorse Sheriff’s Captain Kevin Jensen for the position of County Sheriff. Together, they represent 1,100 members who serve in enforcement and in the jail system.

The Jensen vote was 90 percent for the DSA and 100 per cent for the SCCCPOA, said Dennis Moser, DSA president and SCCCPOA president Lance Scimeca. The voting results were announced to members of both organizations yesterday (July 14).

“Our members are sworn to protect and serve the residents of Santa Clara County. We take this responsibility proudly and seriously and do not make this endorsement lightly,” said Scimeca. “Our members have worked with both candidates for many years, and cast their votes based on their experience.”

Both associations are concerned about the current lack of vision, inadequate staffing, lack of training, outdated computers and patrol cars and the isolation of the department from other law enforcement agencies in the county, Moser explained.

“We are impressed with Capt. Jensen’s 28 years of experience with the Office of the Sheriff and his deep knowledge of both the enforcement side and the jail side of the Sheriff’s Office. He will bring a contemporary, collaborative view and help us all better serve the residents of Santa Clara County,” Moser remarked.

Sign the PetitionCrime comes in many forms.  One of the most disturbing types of crime our members see is the exploitation of women and children in the form of prostitution; commonly advertised online as "escort" or "massage" services.  The crime itself is appalling but equally disturbing is the willingness of some media outlets to advertise these services and assist perpetrators in seeking out those to victimize.  Take for instance the METRO; a San Jose based media company that reports news and also provides space to advertise for prostitution, escorts, and massage services (http://sanjose.metrosiliconvalley.com/adult/classifieds/Disclaimer).  Just because a company can conduct this type of business does not mean it should. By signing an online petition, we hope you would consider joining the DSA in telling the METRO and it's owner, Dan Pulcrano, we do not support their choice of publishing content which assists in the exploitation of women and children.

Though the METRO is not the only online advertiser of prostitution, we hope they choose not to profit from this type of advertising any longer.

On March 15th, 2013 three people were brutally stabbed at their residence in East Side San Jose.  Yolanda and one year old Gabriel died in the brutal assault and three year old Josaline suffered injuries requiring hospitalization.  The Ramirez family is now left with the expense of putting two of their family members to rest and providing for the medical care of little Josaline.  The Deputy Sheriffs' Association of Santa Clara County is partnering with CDF Firefighters/ IAFF Local 2881 in order to raise money to help the family.  We appreciate your help in giving back to a community we believe in and serve.

San Jose - The Deputy Sheriffs' Association of Santa Clara County (DSA) donated two specialty cameras used for documenting injuries to victims of sexual assault.  The cameras include special filters to reveal bruises and other evidence not normally visible to a regular camera.  These cameras are a small part of the continuing support of the S.A.R.T. (Sexual Assault Response Team) program by the DSA.

It is our commitment to enable the many nurses of the S.A.R.T. program to provide the best service possible and enable them to collect and document evidence which may bring the perpetrators of these deplorable crimes to justice.
